We are aware of the recent Clean Label Project reporting and are actively reviewing the information internally with our Quality, Regulatory, and Leadership teams. We take the topic of environmental contaminants, including heavy metals, very seriously and evaluate it within the context of established regulatory frameworks and risk-based food safety principles.

Our Quality and Food Safety programs require that all ingredient suppliers maintain documented hazard-control programs, including monitoring for environmental contaminants such as heavy metals where relevant to the ingredient type and sourcing region. Supplier compliance is verified through Certificates of Analysis (COAs), ingredient specifications, and supplier qualification processes aligned with FDA’s Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule (21 CFR Part 507). Ingredients must meet both applicable regulatory limits and our internal specifications prior to use.

In addition to supplier controls, our products are subject to regulatory oversight in the markets where they are sold. For certain international destinations, finished product testing for heavy metals are required as part of import/export compliance and product registration. This data, along with supplier documentation and risk assessments, form part of our overall verification program. To date, our monitoring and testing activities have not identified heavy metal levels outside of regulatory expectations.

It is also important to note that trace levels of naturally occurring heavy metals can be present in soil-derived ingredients (e.g., vegetables, grains, and mineral sources), water and aquatic proteins, which are not unique to pet food. Regulatory agencies, including FDA, manage this through risk-based guidance, action levels (where established), and preventive controls rather than zero-tolerance standards. Our programs are designed to align with these expectations and to ensure finished products remain safe and compliant.

We continue to follow FDA food safety requirements, FSMA preventive control principles, and applicable international regulations to verify ingredient safety, monitor supplier performance, and ensure our products meet all applicable safety and quality standards. There is nothing more important to us than the safety, quality, and trust that our consumers place in the foods they feed their pets.
